AT, HT, MT, what are the differences?

Apr 10, 2024

Different types of tires have different product characteristics and uses. HT tires, AT tires and MT tires are one category.
HT is the abbreviation of Highway Tire, which means highway tire, which is our most common road tire.
AT stands for All Terrain Tire. All-terrain tires are tires that take into account both off-road and on-road driving.
MT stands for Mud Tire, which we also call mountain mud tires. It is a tire specially developed for vehicles traveling on non-paved roads.

So why do 996 office workers recommend HT to you?
For your comfort, HT road tires are our most common type of tires and are mainly used for road driving. The tread pattern of HT road tires is relatively dense and shallow, and the sidewall position is relatively soft, so this type of tire has the best grip and comfort on the road.
The disadvantage of HT road tires is that when traveling on off-road sections, because their tread patterns are relatively shallow and dense, they can easily get stuck in mud and lose grip. In addition, the relatively fragile sidewalls can also be easily cut by stones.

As the name suggests, AT all-terrain tires have a wider range of applications than road tires. First of all, its tread pattern is rougher than that of road tires, and the gap between the tread teeth will be larger, so its off-road performance will be much better than that of road tires. This design is conducive to driving on non-paved roads. Secondly, AT tires are also different from HT tires in terms of materials and structure. Its sidewalls are thicker and have excellent tear resistance. They will appear stronger in daily use and have a relatively longer lifespan.

Its disadvantage is that it is relatively hard, and its tire noise and vibration filtering properties are worse than road tires. AT all-terrain tires can also satisfy moderate off-roading, and can also take into account certain on-road performance, so if you usually run in the city, and then go to the countryside on weekends to have fun or do a small cross-country trip, use this There is no problem with AT tires.
MT tires are a type of tires that tend to be extreme off-road. Its styling features are more prominent than MT tires. The thick sidewalls and exaggerated tread shape bring it better off-road performance. MT tires have excellent mud dispelling effect on muddy road conditions, and also have good adhesion on rocky and steep road conditions. Its shortcomings are also the same as AT tires, but more obvious. It is a type of tire suitable for extreme off-road use.
There is no chain of contempt for these three tires! There is no best, only the most suitable, which can perform its best functions under applicable conditions and provide drivers with comfort, safety or driving pleasure.
