1. Circuit racing

As the name implies, it refers to racing in a specified closed venue. It can be divided into drifting, formula racing, sedan racing, sports car racing, GT endurance racing, short track rally, off-road racing, drag racing, etc.

2. Non-circuit racing

As the name implies, the basic competition venue is not closed, mainly divided into rally, off-road racing and mountain climbing, beach racing, mud racing, etc.

1. Formula racing

① Formula One (F1): It is the most well-known racing event, held annually by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the highest standard racing competition.

② Formula Two: F2 for short, is a type of formula racing. It was cancelled because the cost was close to F1, but it returned in 2009; the goal of the event is to establish a low-cost series to give young drivers the opportunity to compete in the highest level of motor sports.

③ Formula 3: F3 for short, is a high-cost and high-tech single-seat four-wheel formula racing competition, second only to Formula 1, GP2 and GP3. Formula 3 has always been regarded as the cradle of Formula 1 drivers. The driver champion of this competition can often enter the F1 competition. The name of the competition in Europe has been changed to GP3. The F3 team spends much less than F1, and the mechanical hardware differences between the teams are small, which can better highlight the driver's own control ability.

④ IndyCar: It is a competition using single-seat and open-wheel racing cars. The annual Indianapolis 500 is the most famous stop of the competition, but because it does not belong to the FIA event and the specifications are different, it is not included in the formula event for convenience.

2. Touring car competition

The racing vehicles are derived from mass-produced vehicles. The cars used are ordinary car modifications like sports car races, but there are greater restrictions on the degree of modification and base cars.

The main touring car races include: World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), German Touring Car Championship (DTM), Japan Touring Car Championship (JGTC) later renamed SUPER GT, Australian V8 Supercar Championship (V8 Supercars), etc. We now have a touring car championship in China.

3. Sports Car Races

Sports car races are races on closed tracks with models derived from sports cars (also called performance touring cars, grand tourers, GT for short). In fact, they overlap with touring car races, but the specifications of the cars are more relaxed, and there are fewer restrictions on the degree of modification of the cars and the modified base cars. Some of them can accept specially made sports car prototypes.

The main international competition is the GT World Championship, and other competitions include the FIA GT3 European Championship and the GT4 European Championship.
