Complete list of tire markings

Mar 04, 2024

When ordinary car owners buy tires, they rarely care about the dense markings on the tires. These logos represent various parameters of the tire, just like when we usually buy household appliances, there will be manuals, but the tire manuals are printed on the tires. A bunch of letters and numbers on the tire are tire information, which includes brand, specifications, and some performance parameters, etc.

1. Tire label
Generally, a tire will have a tire label. Once you see the label, you can clearly know the basic condition of the tire.
At present, new tires sold by regular manufacturers on the market will have a tire parameter paper pasted on the surface, which will display the model, specifications, technology and other information of the tire. You can choose and buy based on comparing the tires of your own car model, so when buying tires Also be sure to look carefully.

2. Brand
The brand is the most important logo on the tire. Usually, the first thing that ordinary car owners consider when choosing tires is the brand, so the brand logo is also the largest among the many logos on tires.

3. Specifications
Passenger car tires currently sold on the market all use the unified car radial tire specification representation method of "XXX/XX RXX". For example, 225 represents the tire section width of 225mm, 45 represents the aspect ratio of 65%, R It represents the radial tire, and 17 represents the inner diameter of the tire (hub diameter).

There is a number and English next to the tire specifications, which represent the tire load index and tire speed level respectively. As the name suggests, the tire load represents the maximum mass that the tire can carry, while the speed level represents the maximum speed that the tire can withstand. However, these two parameters vary according to different manufacturers and models, so when choosing tires, try to choose products with higher load and speed ratings.

4. Wear resistance index
The wear resistance index is usually printed numerically on the side of the tire. The larger the number, the more wear-resistant the tire is. The wear resistance index of general household car tires is in the range of Treadwear 240-400, and various manufacturers label these tires more for comfort, silence, wear resistance, etc.

5. DOT certification
We usually know two logos: one is China's "CCC" certification, and the other is "DOT" US Department of Transportation certification.

6. M+S and outside logo
The M+S or M/S logo on the sidewall indicates that this tire can be used in snow and mud conditions. Install the side marked with the Outside logo facing outward.

7. Tire date
Manufacturers usually mark the production date of the tire on the side of the tire. For example, the four digits "1423" represent the production date of the tire, the "23" at the back represents the year of production, and the "14" at the front represents Week, so the tires in the picture were produced in the 14th week of 2023. Generally, the storage time of tires should not exceed 3 years, because the time spent on installation must also be taken into account.

8. Three Peaks Snowflake Logo
The three-peak snowflake logo is the European Union's performance certification for tires that are suitable for snow applications and guarantee winter performance. The three-peak snowflake logo on the sidewall also shows the ice and snow performance of this tire.

9. 3T index
TREADWEAR, TRACTION, TEMPERATURE, the following numerical values also represent its quality.

10. Sidewall structure
TREAD, SIDEWALL, RAYON, STEEL, POLYAMIDE, POLYESTER, NYLON.

11. Special identification
These tires can be identified by the "RUN FLAT" mark on the sidewall and can still travel a certain distance even if they are out of air.
