What exactly does dynamic balancing do?

Apr 02, 2024

To put it simply, dynamic balancing is to keep your wheels in a balanced state when rotating, making your driving more stable and safer. Many people confuse dynamic balancing with four-wheel alignment. In fact, they are different. Dynamic balancing adjusts the balance of the wheels, while four-wheel alignment adjusts the suspension.

To keep the vehicle stable, tires are also very important, but we will always encounter some potholes and bumps on the road. If they are impacted for a long time, the mass distribution of the wheels will be affected to a certain extent. In addition, since the tire itself has "small parts" such as valves, it is not absolutely balanced in a strict sense. The tire itself is also made of soft material, and the combination of the rim and tire cannot completely guarantee mass balance.

After a long time, the wheels may become unbalanced. The most intuitive feeling at this time is that the steering wheel will shake regularly, which becomes more obvious the faster the vehicle speed. In severe cases, there will be a resonance feeling in the car. If you drive like this for a long time, it may cause eccentric tire wear in severe cases, endangering driving safety. If the wheel imbalance is serious, it may cause damage to the bearings and suspension in the long run, affecting the life of the mechanical structure. In addition, whether it is replacing the rim or replacing old tires with new ones, even if nothing is replaced but the tire is removed from the rim for inspection, as long as the rim and tire are reassembled separately, dynamic balancing is required.
