4 standards to look at when choosing tires

May 29, 2024

1. Wear resistance, look at the "3T" index
When we choose tires, we first consider durability, that is, strong wear resistance. Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature are marked on the side of the tire. Among them, the wear index is a mark to measure the wear performance and service life of the tire tread.

2. Drainage, look at the tire grooves
The safety performance of the tire is very important, especially on rainy days, the grip of the tire is affected by the water on the ground, so what kind of tire has higher safety performance on rainy days? The grooves and patterns on the tire are together, and the two cooperate with each other to improve drainage, that is, the water flows out of the grooves through the patterns on the tire.

The main grooves (longitudinal grooves) have the strongest drainage capacity. The deeper and wider the grooves, the better the drainage performance. However, if the width is increased, the grip of the tire will also be relatively reduced, so a balance point needs to be found.

The transverse pattern grooves are auxiliary drainage. Some tires are designed with sipes on the drainage grooves, which can cut the water film when the vehicle is driving at high speed, so that the vehicle has a higher driving speed on the flooded road section.

3. Whether it is silent or not, look at the pattern
Silence is also one of the important factors when we choose tires. Good silent tires can provide us with a comfortable driving environment. The main sources of tire noise are the noise generated when the pattern hits the ground, and the structural noise in the tire and wheel hub caused by the roughness of the ground.

At present, the tread blocks of tires with better quietness on the market are usually irregularly arranged, because ordered tread blocks are usually accompanied by larger tire noise. In addition, many tires have a variable pitch design of tread blocks, which is also a pattern design that reduces tire noise.

4. Tire performance, look at the material
The tire skeleton material determines the tire performance and is the main load-bearing component in the tire. Its function is to support the tire, bear the vehicle load, ensure the strength, air pressure, stability, safety of the tire, and prevent tire deformation.

The tire material will also be displayed on the sidewall, and the materials of the crown and sidewall are displayed separately. Common tire materials are nylon, polyester, polyamide, and steel.

We should select tire products suitable for our vehicles in multiple dimensions according to our needs.
