Tires ≠ Food: Fresher isn't always better

Jul 19, 2023

Why is the newest tire not necessarily the best? According to tire material researchers, on the surface, a tire may appear to be a combination of rubber, steel wires, and fabric plies. However, in reality, a tire is a polymer product composed of over two hundred different chemical substances. The combination of these many chemical elements creates a high molecular product where the movement and settling of internal molecular structures cannot synchronize, and the synthesized polymer material is not yet stable.

The optimal tread depth and wear resistance are not achieved immediately. This is why the best time to install a non-vulcanized tire is after a certain period has been allowed for release and settling. Approximately 8-12 months after tire molding, it enters a stable period, and installation at this time can achieve the best results.

Major tire brands undergo a 3-5 month stabilization period before leaving the factory. Testing has shown that the rate of tire bulges following an accidental impact is 150% higher within the first 3 months of production compared to tires produced a year earlier. Tire designs take various factors into consideration, and as long as tires are stored properly, shielded from direct sunlight and protected from water erosion, storing them for several years will not affect their quality or lifespan.
