Taking micro-truck tires as an example to introduce
1. 175/75R16LT is the tire parameter. Among them, 175 represents the cross-sectional width of the tire, that is, the contact width between the tire and the ground is 175mm.
75 represents the tire's aspect ratio. The aspect ratio refers to the ratio of the height from the rim to the tread and the tread width, expressed as a percentage.
R stands for radial tire, and 16 means the tire has an inner diameter of 16 inches.
LT stands for light truck tires.
2. 8P.R.97/94Q are additional parameters of the tire, where 8P.R. represents 8 layers, which can be simply understood as the strength of the tire. The larger the number, the higher the strength. What needs to be paid attention to is the layer and the actual ply. The numbers are not exactly consistent. 97 means the single tire load is 730kg, and 94 means the twin tire load is 670kg.
Q is the speed grade, and the corresponding speed is 160km/h. M+S where M is the abbreviation of English Mud-Terrain, which means "mud", and S is the abbreviation of English Snow, which means "snow". This means that the tire is suitable for use on ice, snow and muddy roads. Generally, it has very thick transverse or block patterns, which have good grip, but have high driving resistance and noise. They are generally used as off-road tires.
3. DOT JUET 2CL means that the tire complies with DOT standards. DOT means certification by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It is usually followed by a string of numbers and letters, which respectively represent the tire's origin information and factory code.
4. Production date of the tire. There are 4 digits in total. The first 2 digits indicate the production week of the tire, and the last 2 digits indicate the year. The tire in the picture was produced in the 24th week of 2019.
Since the life of tires is generally about 5 years, when buying tires, you must check the production date clearly to avoid buying tires in stock.
5. TUBELESS STEEL BELTED, where TUBELESS means tubeless, commonly known as atomic tires or vacuum tires. This type of tire does not have an inner tube or a belt. It uses the airtight layer of the inner wall of the tire and the bead to ensure good air tightness between the tire and the rim. , the outer tire also serves as the inner tube. STEEL BELTED means semi-steel radial tires.
6. Indicates the tire's maximum load factor, tire pressure parameters, as well as the structure and number of layers of the tread and sidewall. MAX LOAD SINGLE 730KG refers to the maximum single tire load of 730kg. MAX LOAD DUAL 670KG refers to the maximum dual tire load of 670kg. TREAD PLIES refers to the structure of the tread.
There are many ways to deal with seemingly simple tires, and any one of them requires us to spend a lot of time and energy to verify, so in the future, everyone must pay more attention to the tires when using the car.
